We hope professors can use this website as an aid to creating intellectually challenging writing activities in their disciplines. The site describes SFSU's upper-division writing requirement, and offers representative materials from writing intensive classes we hope you can adapt for your own classes.
The Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS), the Committee on English Proficiency (CWEP), and Academic Affairs share responsibility for university-wide WAC.

Teaching Writing In Class: Amy Conley Wright’s Policy Memo Assignment, CAD 625
Submitted by admin on Fri, 08/20/2010 - 09:37Professor Wright’s Policy Memo Assignment defines a specific situation for students to consider. Then, Conley supports this assignment by establishing a sequence for students to follow. In this assignment, students write drafts of different parts of the assignment. Wright takes students through a Model Paper written by one of her students that illustrates the rhetorical qualities of the Policy Memo. She also provides a Model Format and a Rubric whose parts will make more sense to students because each one has been explained and illustrated in class. After studying and discussing these materials, Wright’s students are ready to do peer review (peer review 1, peer review 2) on their drafts of different parts of the Policy Memo. Email Professor Wright (acw@sfsu.edu) with questions.
